Manzanita Footed Urn with Turquoise Inlay
Manzanita trees, found in Western North America, don't grow very big, they are very crooked and full of twisted branches. The wood is extremely hard with a very tight grain that tends to crack easily as it dries. All of these things make beautiful Manzanita woodturnings quite rare, but also contribute to the unparalleled characteristics of the finished piece. The wood is a lovely dark red or brown. This is the wood used in the cages of large birds and also in aquariums.
